ESSENCE Poll: What Do You Do When You Get Bad Service?

Comments
Black Woman Computer

It happens to everyone.

A terrible taxi driver that gets you lost. A hotel with dirty bathrooms and hard pillows. A restaurant that brings you the wrong thing—twice.

Bad service is something we all have to deal with. There are tons of ways of dealing with it, from online reviews to posting on social media. A New York hotel isn't a fan of the online review, so much so that they're fining people for leaving bad reviews. The New York Post reports that the Union Street Guest House in Hudson, New York has been fining newlyweds $500 if their wedding guests leave bad reviews online. The hotel's online policy makes it clear that "there will be a $500 fine that will be deducted from your deposit for every negative review...placed on any internet site by anyone in your party." But if you decide to take the review down, they'll give you your money back.

We got to thinking: What do you do when you receive bad service? Do you write a perfectly-crafted review warning others of what could happen? Do you demand to speak to a manager? Do you refuse to leave a tip? Or you do rant about it on your favorite social media site? Take our poll and let us know.
