We're still reeling from Audra McDonald's historic Tony Awards win last night. The actress-singer became the only woman to earn six Tony Awards after winning the Best Actress award for playing Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill.

McDonald's portrayal of Billie Holiday has definitely joined the ranks of great biopic performances by Black actresses. Who can forget Angela Bassett's thrilling depiction of Tina Turner in What's Love Got To Do With It? or Halle Berry's poignant portrayal of Dorothy Dandridge?
