Coffee Talk: OWN Adapts '20 Feet From Stardom' Singer's Memoir as First Scripted Movie

Here's why we'll need an extra cup of coffee this morning:

  • Oprah Winfrey's network OWN is gearing up to produce its first scripted TV movie with an adaptation of My Name Is Love: The Darlene Love Story. Darlene Love, back-up singer to greats like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin, penned the memoir and will executive produce the project. She is best known as the backup singer featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary 20 Feet From Stardom. Oprah Winfrey and Morgan Neville will also executive produce the project set to hit the small screen in 2015. [HollywoodReporter]

  • Samuel L. Jackson had a few choice words for reporter Sam Rubin after Rubin confused him with Laurence Fishburne. During an interview Monday, Rubin asked Jackson if he got a reaction from his Super Bowl commercial, one that he was never in. Jackson didn't hesitate to check him, "We don't all look alike! We may be all Black and famous, but we don't all look alike! You're the entertainment reporter for this station and you don't know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne?" Rubin later apologized on air. [People]

  • Kevin Hart will star in a new movie alongside rapper T.I. and comedian Will Ferrell. The About Last Night star revealed the collaboration on his Instagram Monday: "Me & Will Ferrell are about to do a movie together people!" the comedian wrote. " All I can say is HolyS--t & happy to say that brother/friend @troubleman31 (T.I.) will be a part of this amazing project as well! My hustle never stops! This could be legendary people!" [Vibe]

  • Mariah Carey has unveiled news of her new music via a two-minute teaser video on Monday with footage highlighting the her various career achievements. The singer's new single "You're Mine (Eternal)" is due out Wednesday, February 12 and her follow-up album to 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel will drop May 6. The album was originally due out last July but was delayed due to a shoulder injury. [Billboard]
