Actress Michelle Hurst, "Miss Claudette" on the Netflix series recovering from car crash.

Michelle Hurst, who plays inmate "Miss Claudette" on the popular Netflix hit series Orange Is The New Black was seriously injured in a car crash just before the holidays. The accident left Hurst in a medically induced coma for more than two weeks stated fundraising site YouCaring.com, created to help the actress with her medical expenses and time off work.

According to a recent update on the fundraising page, titled "Helping Our Orange Family," Hurst is now awake. "She had major injuries, so the doctors put her in a medically induced coma to avoid movement while they did multiple surgeries near her spine. She is out of the coma (after 16 days) and has opened her eyes!"

Orange Is The New Black  co-stars, Natasha Lyonne and Matt McGorry who play Nicky Nichols and John Bennett respectively, have directed Twitter followers to the fundraising site to support Hurst's needs.

Our prayers go out to the actress for a speedy recovery.
