Michelle Obama Extends Her Hawaii Vacation

President Barack Obama has departed Hawaii to return to Washington, but First Lady Michelle Obama will spend a few more days on the island in celebration of her upcoming birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Obama, along with daughters Sasha and Malia, took a 15-day vacation to the president's home state to celebrate the holidays. The president and his daughters left Saturday evening, but the first lady will continue to enjoy Oahu.

The extended visit is President Obama's birthday gift to the his wife, who turns 50 on January 17. Mrs. Obama plans to use the extra days to spend time with friends in advance of her birthday.

Before the president took off for Washington, he and his wife enjoyed a hike on the Na Pohaku O Hauwahine trail.
