ESSENCE.com's "New and Next" column spotlights the brightest new talents we think you should know. This week we meet jazz band Jon Batiste and Stay Human. Consisting of four dynamic Julliard-trained musicians and led by Louisiana-born pianist Jon Batiste, Stay Human aims to transcend the traditional jazz category and bring jazz to a new generation of music lovers. "I think jazz is powerful because it can accomodate many different things," Batiste tells ESSENCE.com.
"You can have jazz that has influences from all types of music. And Social Music takes that concept even further to what represents our generation [which is] an intergration of everything."
Watch Jon Batiste and Stay Human perform "Glory House" above and chances are you'll get as excited about them as we are.
Social Music is out now.
