South African songstress Simphiwe Dana has achieved near legendary status in her country. Her rich and organic blues-inflected voice has earned her comparisons to Miriam Makeba and Billie Holiday.

After watching her make her U.S. debut at the ESSENCE Festival this summer even Jill Scott and Maxwell fell in love. We couldn't resist the urge to introduce Simphiwe to ESSENCE's "New & Next' audience.
