The Big Day: February 21, 2014

Wedding Location: Atlanta, GA

When and how did you meet your man?
We both attended Georgia Southern University where we were in the same biology class our sophomore year.

Crystal, were you looking for love at the time?
No, I had been through a horrible heartbreak and had completely written off guys for a while.

Did you play hard to get?
I think so. I was feeling him after our first date, but I didn’t want him to know that.

Why did you fall in love with Crystal?
She loves me unconditionally and always has our family's best interest at heart.

Describe your most romantic date ever.
We spent the entire day together exploring the city. Then I had to run some errands and I went to get a mani/pedi. When I returned home, he surprised me with a candlelight dinner.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that ever happened on a date?
We went to a friend's wedding and I knew I'd have a little trouble because I'm not accustomed to wearing heels. Throughout the ceremony I had to stand and walk on cobblestone, so by the time we got to the reception, I couldn't take it anymore. Everyone kept asking me what was wrong. Rather than explain, Omar just sat next to me all night and told everyone he wasn't feeling well.

What’s the sweetest thing he has ever done for you?
He always gets me roses on Valentine’s Day. This past Valentine’s Day, I had just lost my grandmother, Lillie, who meant the world to me. He had a bouquet of lilies sent to my job with the sweetest card. It was simple, but sweet. I still carry the card with me in my purse.

How long did you date before you got engaged?
Long enough!

How did he pop the question?
He started off the month of December giving me a small gift every day. I received my favorite foods, some of my favorite things and even hair products. I should have known something was up. On Christmas Eve 2012, Omar was really sick with the flu. My family was over for our usual Christmas Eve gathering and he came downstairs, but was sitting away from everyone. I just figured it was because he had such a nasty cold. When I turned around to go into the kitchen he was down on one knee.

What was really going through your mind as he proposed?
Is this actually happening? No, for real, is this happening? It kind of felt surreal.

Were you nervous about proposing?
No, because it was a long time coming. Plus, I already knew her answer.

What are you most looking forward to about marriage?
Experiencing life and reaching all my goals with my wife by my side.
