ESSENCE Poll: What's Your Social Media Fix?

Comments
Nearly 50 percent of all singles in the U.S. have tried online dating. Gone are the days when it was just computer nerds and serial killers using these sites. Online dating is finally mainstream. The evolution of dating sites has resulted in 1,000s of niche dating variations coming to life. One of my favorites is HowAboutWe.com, where you suggest the type of date you’d like to go on and that’s how you’re matched. (Good stuff!)

Social media rules the world. Don't believe us. Ask the billions of people around the world who log on to check into their favorite social media sites daily.

According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, 67 percent of adults online are using social networking sites daily. A few more interesting stats from the Pew study:

  • We spend an average of eight hours or more per month on social media.
  • 71 percent of social media users are women. 62 percent are men.
  • 67 percent of adults online use Facebook, 16 percent use Twitter and 15 percent use Pinterest.
  • African-Americans (68%) and Hispanics (72%) use social media more than Whites (65%). Especially Twitter.

Clearly, we're jonesing for social media on the daily. Tell us: what's your fix? Is it one-billion strong Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or the ever-growing Pinterest? Maybe you've found a site we don't know about. Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
