'Star Wars' Creator George Lucas Gets Engaged to Mellody Hobson

After nearly seven years of dating, the couple now plans to say "I do!"

Big congratulations are in order for Star Wars creator George Lucas and his longtime girlfriend, Dreamworks animation chairman Mellody Hobson. After nearly seven years of dating, the power couple is now planning a trip down the aisle.

According to the The Hollywood Reporter, a rep from Lucasfilm confirmed the engagement, which will be the first marriage for Hobson and the second for Lucas.

Both Hobson, 43, and Lucas, 68, have had extraordinary careers. 

Along with her position at Dreamworks, Hobson is the head of the Chicago-based investment management firms Ariel Investments LLC. and Ariel Mutual Funds. Both organizations are reportedly among the largest African-American-owned companies in the U.S.

Lucas recently sold his film and television production company Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4.05 billion to the Walt Disney company. The deal included the rights to the Star Wars series, which he wrote and directed. 

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” Lucas said in a release at the time. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers."

Lucas seems to be moving on the the next chapter of his life  which includes marriage! 

There's no word yet on when or where the two plan to tie the knot.
