Check out why we're having fruit with our morning brew:

• Brandy and her new fiancé, Ryan Press, rang in the New Year in Las Vegas one year after going public with their relationship. The singer says their engagement wasn't planned. "It was a spontaneous thing for my fiancé," said Brandy. "He just felt it." As for the giant diamond ring she's now sporting, Brandy's proud of what her future hubby picked out. "He worked really hard on the ring," she said. "I'm not a big diamond girl, but I really love this diamond he did. It just represents how he feels about me, and I'm really blessed to have someone like him in my life. He's truly a gift." [People]

• Baltimore Ravens star Ray Lewis, 37, will retire after the 2013 season is complete. In an announcement yesterday, the athlete says he wants to spend more time with his family after 17 seasons on the field. "God is calling," said Lewis. "My children have made the ultimate sacrifice for their father for 17 years. I don't want to see them do that no more. I've done what I wanted to do in this business, and now it's my turn to give them something back." [Fox Sports]

• Legendary singer Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with early signs of Alzheimer's disease. He told the BBC the news came after he simply forgot song lyrics and names of collaborators he's worked with. It's the most recent health setback for the singer who suffered from a pneumonia and colon cancer last year. He is 68. [BBC]
