First Lady Michelle Obama's journey from the South Side of Chicago to the White House has inspired a generation, and many more to come. The editors of ESSENCE joined together to capture her standout moments as a mother, wife and style icon in a new commemorative book, A Salute to Michelle Obama.

"The editors of ESSENCE took special care in pulling images and quotes from celebrities and influencers that would commemorate the First Lady’s journey over the past four years,” said ESSENCE editor-in-chief Constance C.R. White. "These photos truly capture the sheer admiration and pride that her fans feel whenever they see her—whether she’s speaking to a crowd of thousands at the Democratic National Convention or when she’s simply alone with her family."

Not only does the book showcase one of the most incredible personal journeys in American history, it features an introduction by White and tributes from Dr. Maya Angelou, Iyanla Vanzant and America's First Granny, Marian Robinson.

"This book also promises to be a wonderful gift to a young woman in your life for the holidays, especially since it reinforces positive images of Black women," said White.

The soft-cover version of A Salute to Michelle Obama is available on newsstands now, and the hardcover hits national retailers on January 8th.
