Williams will now advance to the quarterfinals where she will square-off against Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.
"I didn't want to lose today, and I thought, 'Just stay relaxed,'" said Williams, according to NewJersey.com. "I knew the whole match I could play better… I feel fine. I'm not tired. I'm not anything. I feel good. I feel like, bottom line, I can play so much better than what I have been playing… you know me. I'm never satisfied.
The news comes as a surprise given Williams and her sister, Venus, were suddenly eliminated from the French Open just weeks ago. The tennis duo lost their first round matches to poorly ranked players.
Venus was ousted after making an egregious 33 errors. Serena got teary eyed after her defeat saying, "I've been through so much in my life, and… I'm not happy, by no means. I just always think things can be worse."
Shortly after Serena wraps up at Wimbledon, the Williams sisters will head to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
