Lost Without You
During the 2003 Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., Janee attended a nearby party with a few close friends. Jeffrey and his buddies were also in attendance. He and Janee locked eyes from across a crowded room, and since Jeffrey was rather reserved, he used his body language to signal for her to meet him outside for an introduction. “From that moment on, we were joined at the hip,” says Janee. “We spent a wonderful year together in D.C.” Their joyful time together came to an abrupt end when she graduated from law school and moved to London to study fashion. Although they were clearly soulmates, Janee and Jeffrey made the painful decision to split up and go their separate ways. Six years later Jeffrey still had his lost love on his mind. He looked Janee up and reached out. “From the moment we reconnected, we knew we’d never be apart,” says Janee.
The Love Boat
After one year of rekindled love, Jeffrey didn’t want to go another minute without being able to call Janee his wife. Because he knew a special lady required a special proposal, Jeffrey teamed up with Janee’s close friend Nwamaka to be sure he blew her away. During a trip to Miami to visit their friends, Jeffrey took advantage of their serene surroundings and booked a private sunset boat ride for two. (An instant plus with Janee, who loves boats and being at sea.) “When it was about to get dark, I took Janee’s hand, told her how special she was, and said some other things that didn’t come out as smoothly as I would have liked,” says Jeffrey. “I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said ‘Yes.’” Janee says she easily caught onto the fact that Jeffrey was about to propose, but that didn’t make the moment any less incredible. ”I was really touched that he went out of his way to create the perfect setting,” she says. The following fall, the happy couple tied the knot at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. Share their love.
