In a very direct message, Spencer says she was misrepresented with headlines quoting her as unhealthy. "So, I decided to tell you in my own damn words the truth," she wrote.

She immediately started off by debunking rumors that she's worried about her weight. In fact, she only has plans to lose 20 pounds max. "I am however being proactive in being the healthiest I can be" she writes. "And before you ask, no, awards season is not the reason. I've been doing this for the past 10 years because it took that long to gain the weight!"
The Black Women in Hollywood Honoree also dug into the media for what she calls its unfair standard of beauty. "Right now, in this salacious age of the internet coupled with the 'beauty and fashion' industries respectively only promoting a 'certain' kind of pretty, we've seen a dramatic increase in bullying, eating disorders and body dysmorphia among male and female teens," she laments. "This is no joking matter."

Spencer adds that refuses to conform to an "unrealistic model of beauty."
Before ending the nearly 500 word post, she offers some words of encouragement to those facing similar scrutiny. "Be happy in your own skin," she says. "If you are unhealthy start by making small changes to become healthier. You are unique, beautiful, and worthy. Last but certainly not least, don't buy into any of it."
