Your Letters for Michelle Obama's 48th Birthday

In honor of Michelle Obama's birthday, we asked you to write her a birthday wish. Here's what you had to say.

ESSENCE's Editor-in-Chief Constance C.R. White wrote a very touching letter to Michelle Obama in celebration of our First Lady's 48th birthday. We asked you to do the same. Here are some of the best letters from the bunch:

----

Dear Mrs O.,

May God bless you and your family in all you do and give you strength everyday to be able to fulfill your destiny. You make all Black females from around the world proud to stand up and own being Black and successful. Happy Birthday!

Love,
Ramaisela

Mrs. Obama,

I was not raised with wealth or resources or any social standing to speak of. And I come here as a daughter, raised by a father who was a blue-collar city worker and a mother who stayed at home... Those are your words but they are mine too. You are me and so many other women of all races. You have formed such a connection with us. At the end of the day we all want the best for our children; we want to serve our country; and we want to be vibrant and healthy. We want to laugh and dance; to love and be loved. And yes, sometimes we want to eat fries! As you and the President have said, our similarities are so much more than our differences. Our phenomenal country's fabric is made up of phenomenal ladies. As the First Lady, thank you for representing OUR face so gracefully and graciously to our global neighbors and here at home. We are so so so so so proud of you! Happy Birthday!
