5 Questions with Vivica A. Fox on Her Hair Collection

Vivica A. Fox is gearing up to make 2012 her best year yet. The talented actress not only has three new films coming out next year, but she's also busy working on the Vivica A. Fox Hair Collection, her own line of high-end wigs and hair extensions. 

We caught up with the "A Holiday Heist" star to chat about all things hair and find out where we can get our hands on some of her hot wigs and weaves.

ESSENCE.com: You've been such a big star in the entertainment and movie business. What made you want to develop your own wig and extensions line?
VIVICA A. FOX: My manager used to work with Beverly Johnson for years and when Beverly decided that she didn’t want to do it anymore, they were looking for a fresh new face. All of the styles that were pitched to me were extremely classy and well-styled. I’ve been doing the hair line now for three years and we have over 120 different wigs in all varieties including human, synthetic, lace-front and we just introduced our new extension line, which is doing extremely well.

ESSENCE.com: How involved are you in choosing the styles and where do you get inspiration from?
FOX: I work with a wig designer named Kia McKenzie who is an amazing stylist based in Philadelphia and creates all of the wigs. She has her ear to the streets and knows about all the hottest styles. After the wigs are created, Kia then comes to me to get my thoughts and input. She designs all the up-to-date and trendy styles, but we also have more traditional styles. We can design a wig for everybody, from the everyday girl to a movie star.

ESSENCE.com: I saw a photo of you in a platinum blonde wig on your Facebook page -- so fierce! When you’re trying on all the different hairstyles, what is it like to see yourself in so many looks?
FOX: It’s great for me because of my acting background. Now I have a company that I can totally depend on and they know exactly what styles I need and can get it to me the next day. When I put on the different wigs, it’s just like creating the different characters which I’ve done in my career for decades. It also works for me because I don’t have to damage and destroy my own hair or sit in the stylist's chair for five hours for a weave.

ESSENCE.com: What is your advice for women who are looking to experiment with new hairstyles?
FOX: Wigs are a really fun to experiment with without killing your own hair. There’s nothing worse than thinking that you can look good in a trendy hairdo and you cut or color your hair and then realize it was the biggest mistake. With wigs, you can do a test drive. My collection is also great because it ‘s extremely affordable -- the styles start at only $25.
