Dwight Howard: Women 'Make it Hard' for NBA Players to Be Good Dads

It looks like Orlando Magic player Dwight Howard isn’t practicing what he preaches.

Despite having a gag order in place barring “Basketball Wives” star Royce Reed from speaking to the media about their son or their very public and non-amicable custody war, he opened up about fatherhood in an interview in the new issue of Esquire magazine. Not only does Dwight discuss being a dad, he also places blame on women for making it difficult for ballers to see their kids.

“People say you don’t need a father to be successful. I take offense to that,” says Dwight, who implies he doesn’t get to see his son as often as he’d like.

He later adds, “With some of my teammates, they try so hard to be around their kid, and then the mother of their child makes it so hard. A lot of guys just say, ‘I’m not gonna deal with it.’”

Proud father Dwight goes on to gush about how much he adores his son and the time they do get to spend together and his hope for a brighter future for his family.

“Hopefully me and my son’s mom will come to a better agreement for my son," Dwight said. “When I do see him, we have the best time in the world. He acts just like me. He tries to run like me. He looks back and smiles like me. Fatherhood is great and it will get better. He’s young. He’s gonna need his father in his life.”

One could argue that it’s not fair for Dwight to paint Royce as being the one in the way of him being the father he’d like to be, especially considering that legally she can’t respond to his comment. What do you think?

Is there a double standard here?
