The president will join Civil Rights leaders and the King family in officially opening the $120 million memorial. Thousands are expected to gather for the groundbreaking event honoring one of our nation’s most profound Civil Rights leaders. The four hour-long program will also feature moving tributes by Aretha Franklin, Shirley Murdock, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Cicely Tyson.
The dedication was originally set to take place on August 28th — the same day as King’s historic “I Have a Dream” speech 48 years ago — but was postponed because of Hurricane Irene.

Last night, the Obama family made an unannounced visit to the memorial. Five years ago, Obama, then an Illinois Senator, spoke about bringing his daughters to the memorial and telling them “that this man gave his life serving others. I will tell them that this man tried to love somebody. I will tell them that because he did these things, they live today with the freedom God intended, their citizenship unquestioned, their dreams unbounded.”
We’re looking forward to watching his inspiring dedication tomorrow which will air on BET starting at 11 AM ET. Will you be tuning in?
