NYFW 2012 Daily Style Chronicles: Day 3

Old habits die hard. This was the case on Day three when I returned to my colorful roots! As a Nigerian woman, I truly feel no one does color like we do! At a Nigerian party you are sure to see every color of the rainbow and some you never knew existed! African patterns were my inspiration of the day. My dress is Jewel by Lisa, a Nigerian designer known for her innovative take on traditional African fabric. Her trademark is intricate bead work and styles that are anything but ordinary! Since I have been around african fabric all my life, I feel connected to her designs. On my head, I wore a vintage scarf twisted into a chic turban. My floral TopShop platforms gave the perfect contrast in color and print. The bag of the day is a pretty gray suede purse by Me Char. I went all out with jewelry, piling on two necklaces, a hoard of vintage African bangles on one hand; a plethora of wooden bangles on the other. Three statement rings later and I was good to go!

Dressed to impress, I was excited to hit Saturdays shows. First up, Helmut Lang. Known for casual chic, they presented an array of sheer tops, assymetrical bras that were meant to be seen, and super cozy harem pants. The highlight for me were the cropped triangle design on the backs of jackets -- too cool! I would look amazing in the sheer, vibrant yellow dresses that popped amongst the sea of black and white looks. The black and white color block wedges were all the rage. There you have it -- color block wedges are it for Spring 2012 -- today at Helmut Lang, yesterday at Cynthia Rowley. After Helmut, I hopped into a cab en route to Lincoln Center for the ADAM show. I loved the flowing capes, bold and beautiful florals and matchy-matchy looks. After ADAM I headed to Vivienne Tam, which was hands down my favorite show of the day! Vivienne channeled 70s Bianca Jagger with her sexy yet sophisticated printed pantsuits. Vivienne is a true master at mixing prints. Jaw dropping. My last show of the day was the always highly anticipated Alexander Wang. Inside the venue I spotted the fabulous Teri Agins and had the pleasure of meeting the extremely talented Mary Alice Stephenson. Alexander's show won for best music and most sexy casual wear! I love what he did with skirts this season -- fun and flirty. The night ended just as fabulously as it had begun with the ESSENCE September cover party for Tracee Ellis Ross at Shun Lee Restaurant. Attended by Debra Lee, Corinne Bailey Rae, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Teri Agins and more it was a fabulous event! I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm looking forward to what's in store for Day four!
