Bridal Bliss: A Funny Thing Called Love
Bride: Erykah Renée St. Louis, 25, Communications Assistant
Groom: Ricky Christopher Brathwaite, 32, Senior Healthcare Analyst
Married Since: May 29, 2011
Wedding Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Wedding Theme: Harlem Renaissance
An Awkward Encounter
Canadian Erykah was visiting the U.S. for a six-week internship in Washington D.C., and decided to seek out a church for some local fellowship. She attended a local service with a co-worker who started pointing out who’s who at her church. Erykah’s co-worker pointed to Ricky, and said he was her future husband. Intrigued, Erykah gave him another look. When he walked over to talk to the ladies, although her co-worker couldn’t keep her eyes off Ricky, he only had eyes for Erykah. Feeling a little awkward, Erykah walked away, but Ricky made sure to follow her -- he wasn’t letting this one get away! He offered to show her around the city, and before they knew it, they were the best of friends and a romance began to bloom.
The Fake Out
Long distance love wasn’t easy for Erykah and Ricky, but they found a way to make it work. After three years of dating, Ricky decided to propose, but he had a few tricks ups his sleeve. He took Erykah to the restaurant where they had their first date. To make the moment memorable, he fooled his ladylove by giving her a not-so-impressive decoy ring and a clumsy proposal. Just when she thought he had messed it all up, he got down on one knee and presented her with the real bling and declared his love. Tickled pink by his prank, Erykah managed to squeeze out a “yes” between laughs. Share their love.
