Remember when the world first saw the TMZ.com branded image of a beaten and bloodied Rihanna? Suddenly, Riri and Breezy became the Ike and Tina Turner of this generation. A national debate raged with even Oprah Winfrey declaring,"Love doesn't hurt!" The all-American boy had assaulted the reigning pop princess. But, the question was: would their careers survive? Pop audiences quickly abandoned Brown.
But, similar to R. Kelly, OJ Simpson and Michael Jackson, the African-American audience stuck by Chris. For many, it's getting harder to stand by Chris Brown. Poor interviews (we are still trying to forget that uncomfortable "Larry King Live" interview with the blueberry-colored bowtie) and legendary outbursts on Twitter have plagued him for the past two years. Now, after a softball interview with respected journalist Robin Roberts of "Good Morning America," Brown allegedly had a temper tantrum and pulled a Jazmine Sullivan by busting a window in his dressing room. To add a little more drama, the newly blonde star stormed out of the "GMA" studio frazzled and shirtless.
This is all "alleged," but considering how vocal Breezy is, I am sure he would've instantaneously taken to Twitter to deny breaking a window. That said, ABC is not pressing charges. Brown's new album is titled F.A.M.E., which stands for "Forgiving All My Enemies." A catchy title, however, Chris Brown has not received the forgiveness he feels he deserves. Shortly after the alleged "bust your windows" incident, Brown Tweeted this, "I'm so over people bringing this past s**t up!!! Yet we praise Charlie sheen and other celebs for there bulls**t."
Excellent point. Charlie "Tiger Blood" Sheen has twice pleaded guilty to domestic violence. But Breezy — you ain't no Charlie Sheen. You ain't no Lindsay Lohan. You ain't no Mel Gibson.
Yes, there probably is a double standard because of his browner complexion, which is what he was touching on in his now deleted Tweet. Nonetheless, being that he realizes this; shouldn't he avoid anything that will cause this double standard to come to life? The real question: Is Chris Brown a victim of F.A.M.E. or just a petulant diva?
