A private memorial service for blue-eyed soul singer Teena Marie will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks in Los Angeles on Monday, January 10, said a statement from her manager, Lynn Jeter. This, just days after investigators said an autopsy turned up no discernible cause of death for “Ivory Queen of Soul’s” sudden death the day after Christmas.
In an interview with ESSENCE last year, the performer said she had successfully beaten an addiction to prescription drugs after her friend and mentor Rick James dies.
Marie is survived by her 19-year-old daughter Alia Rose, also a singer who performs under the name, Rose Le Beau. Rose recently tweeted these sweet words to her mother, “I will make you proud until we meet again, I love you @MsTeenaMarie.”
Forest Lawn Memorial Parks is also where the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson was laid to rest in 2009.
Stay tuned to ESSENCE.com for more details of Teena Marie’s memorial service tomorrow.
