Black Actors in Movies to Watch in 2011

The new year brings much to look forward to, including all the new and exciting things in the world of entertainment. When it comes to film, 2011 looks like a promising year because we'll get to see so many great Black actors and actresses on the big screen. And because Hollywood is what it is, it's even more important we support the films with Black talent. Click through to see which Black thespians we're looking forward to seeing on the big screen in 2011.

Queen Latifah - January

Queen Latifah stars in "The Dilemma" (January 2011). the queen is a great addition to the comedic cast that includes Vince Vaughn and Wionna Ryder in this comedic drama. The film serves as a reminder that what you don't say to a friend is just as important as what you do say.

Cuba Gooding Jr.

Mr. Show-Me-The-Money himself, Cuba Gooding Jr. will return to the big screen in "Ticking Clock" (January 2011) where he plays Lewis Hicks, a crime reporter who stumbles on some gruesome details in a murderers journal. Fresh-faced actress Veronica Berry also stars.

Katerina Graham - February

Katerina Graham plays "The Roommate," a dramatic thriller about the perils of going to college and getting a psycho roommate. The film's suspense-filled tagline reads: "2,000 colleges. 8 million roommates. Which will you get?"

Martin Lawrence - Feb

Funnyman Martin Lawrence returns to the big screen as a beloved grandmother in "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" (February 2011), the third installment of Big Momma House series. This time he brings along the very funny Brandon T. Jackson to crack the newest case.

Anthony Mackie - March

Anthony Mackie takes over the big screen in 2011, starring in two films. Catch him in March in the romantic thriller "The Adjustment Bureau," as Harry, and then later in October in the sci-fi action film "Reel Steel," about robot boxers.

Ludacris - April

The rapper-turned-actor Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges enjoys the ride in "Fast Five" (April 2011), the fifth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise co-starring Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, and Tyrese Gibson.

Anthony Anderson - April

Ten years have passed and all the original Scream cast are revisited by a different killer. Funny man Anthony Anderson, who plays Deputy Perkins, is on the case to stop the murders and find the killer in "Scream 4" (April 2011).

Paula Patton - May

New mommy, Paula Patton joins Angela Bassett and Loretta Devine in TD Jakes' "Jumping the Broom" (May 2011) and gets her action on in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" (December 2011) alongside Tom Cruise in the fourth installment of the action flick series. Talk about getting back in the groove of things.

Idris Elba - May

"Thor" (May 2011) tells the story of powerful warrior cast out of his realm and sent to live on earth. Whether we're into comics or not, we're happy to know the super sexy Elba will play Heimdall in the Marvel comics-inspired film.

Zoe Kravitz - June

Playing the smaller role of Angel Salvadore, actress Zoe Kravitz will star in "X Men: First Class" (June 2011). Look out, this might just be a summer sizzler.

Tyrese - July

Sexual chocolate aka Tyrese Gibson, will be back in July to play in the third installment "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," right after co-staring in the high speed action film Fast Five in April.

Rashida Jones - July

The gorgeous Rashida Jones, daughter of music mogul Quincy Jones, is part of the cast of "Friends with Benefits" (July 2011), a look at what happens when you let romance enter a friendship.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis is joined by Ciecly Tyson and Aunjanue Ellis in this drama set in Mississippi during the 1960s. "The Help" (August 2011) is about a college writer who returns home to interview Black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. We feel some Oscar buzz, don't you?

Yaya DaCosta - Sept

Former ANTM contestant Yaya DaCosta continues to get her acting on in "Now" (September 2011), a sci-fi thriller co-starring Justin Timberlake about what would happen if the aging gene is switched off.

John Singleton directs

Famed director John Singleton is in post production for "Abduction" (September 2011) a thriller centered on a young man who sets out to uncover the truth about his life after finding his baby photo on a missing persons website. Denzel Whitaker co-stars.

Laurence Fishbourne - Oct

In "Contagion" (October 2011), Fishburne plays Dr. Ellis Cheever in this sci-fi action flick about a deadly disease that poses a threat on mankind. By now Fishburne is a master in the sci-fi genre. We cannot wait.

Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje - October

In October fresh face Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje stars in the sci-fi horror movie "The Thing." We look forward to see the talent of one Hollywood's newcomers.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry will grace the silver screen in a romantic comedy that shows singles and couples whose lives randomly intertwine during the holidays in "New Year's Eve" (December 2011). Look forward to a film filled with Hollywood A-listers.

Terrence Howard

The screenplay for "On The Road" (no date set yet, a dramatic adventure that tells the story of a young man who travels the railways of America is based on a book written Jack Kerouac and stars Howard as Walter.

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx plays a character named "Motherf***er Jones" in "Horrible Bosses" (not yet released), a comedy about three friends who plot their bosses' murder when they realize they are standing in the way of their happiness.
