The ex-wife of Bishop Eddie Long claimed in divorce papers that the megachurch pastor was physically abusive toward her. In court papers filed in 1985 and uncovered by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dabara S. Houston claimed her husband had a "vicious and violent" temper and that he beat her with "fists" when she was seven and a half months pregnant. Houston married Long in 1981 and divorced him four years later. Their son, now 27, is a youth director at Bishop Long's New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. In a statment to AJC, Bishop Long's attorneys called the report "offensive" and blasted the media for resurfacing allegations from 30 years ago. The second of the four young men accusing the pastor of sexual coercion spoke to the media this week. Spencer LeGrande says he doesn't harbor any hate for Long. "God doesn't produce hate. I pray for everyone, especially the bishop, because he knows the truth," he said.
