Recently, one short-haired ESSENCE.com staffer noticed that her short haircut had the tendency to look dense in photographs (ie, in certain lights, you can't make out all the angles of the cut). So, she had her stylist add some lighter, blonder extensions to her 'do, and she can't stop raving about the results! "Golden streaks always give short haircuts so much life," says R.J., a Washington DC-based stylist. "Not only do a few well-placed highlights wake up the shape in photographs, they also add a sexy punctuation to your entire style, in general. You could have on sweatpants and sneakers, and still have a 'look' going on!" One caveat: If you have a relaxer, blonde highlights can definitely do damage, so ask your stylist to add some extensions to your 'do, instead.
