Interior design maven and host of HGTV's "Myles of Style," Kim Myles, will answer a question submitted from an ESSENCE.com reader every day. Kim believes that interior design should offer a lifestyle that's chic, vibrant and attainable for every homeowner or renter. "My goal is to offer simple solutions that help the average person achieve the look that they want without going into debt. There is absolutely no reason for great design to be overly expensive or exclusive," she declares. Today's topic: Green for baby Dear Kim, I am pregnant and do not know the baby's sex. I am old-fashioned and want to wait until the day of the birth to find out what God has in store for me. Anyway, I am seeing a lot of pale green in children's rooms lately. It's like everyone I know is going green rather than pink or blue. I like it and am thinking I will paint the room that color. Is there something about the color that is so attractive to parents? Is it good luck or something? What do you think about painting a baby's room pale green? KIM MYLES: First, congratulations! I love the color green, and I think it's a great choice for a nursery room. Green is a soothing, calming and restful--perfect for the sleep deprivation you're about to experience! In some cultures, green symbolizes good luck (think Chinese jade), and it can also represent wealth and prosperity. I'd choose a soft green with just a slight bit of grey to it--think light moss. Another benefit of using green is that it goes with absolutely every color because it's basically a neutral. Just think about nature--every flower has green leaves, and no matter the color of the bloom, the combo always works. Read more:
