Interior design maven and host of HGTV’s “Myles of Style,” Kim Myles, will answer a question submitted from an ESSENCE.com reader every day. Kim believes that interior design should offer a lifestyle that’s chic, vibrant and attainable for every homeowner or renter. “My goal is to offer simple solutions that help the average person achieve the look that they want without going into debt. There is absolutely no reason for great design to be overly expensive or exclusive,” she declares. Today’s topic: Hidden Desk Dear Kim, We are renting a town house that we can’t paint nor hang heavy items. Currently we are using part of our open kitchen for an office space. Any tips to organize the space without using too much of our dining area? Are there any types of desks that can hide all my stuff? KIM MYLES: Yes! Try converting a small armoire or cabinet (Ikea’s Akurum high cabinet comes in multiple finishes) into your desk. It’s as easy as installing a sliding mechanism onto the desk-height shelf, and drilling a hole through the back for cords. This allows you to store a ton of stuff due to the vertical space, and close it all away when you’re not working.Read more:
