Dear Kim,My house is furnished with pieces from different stages of my and my husband’s lives. There are pieces that seem classic and traditional and others that are modern and sleek, and some somewhere in between. What are things that I can do to bring all the pieces together so it seems like it’s all one fluid idea? KIM MYLES: Well, you’re in luck–mixing styles is one of the freshest approaches out there, and you’ve got all of the raw material you need. Creating fluidity is as simple as choosing the ‘alpha’ style; either modern or traditional needs to be dominant in the space for it to feel like a successful blend (think 70/30 split). Once you’ve chosen your direction, marry the two styles by unifying the rest of the space with pattern, color and texture.
