Commentary: Friends Before Lovers

Our grandmothers may have been on to something when they told us to just be friends with boys for a long time before getting romantic. In fact, when we interview the new wives in our Bridal Bliss feature, more often than not, they tell us they were friends with their husbands long before they became lovers. Founder of the African American Family Education program, Lorraine Blackman, PH.D says a strong friendship is still the foundation for a healthy marriage, but a lot of young people are skipping over the friendship part and going straight to the romance.
