MJB: 'Song for 'Precious' Draws From Personal Struggle

Mary J. Blige says her song on the 'Precious' soundtrack, "I Can See in Color" is personal. The film's director Lee Daniels instructed Blige to draw inspiration for the tune--which plays as Precious is headed to the delivery room-- from her own life, growing up in the projects in Yonkers, NY. The track was co-written with Raphael Saadiq and LaNeah Menzies and Blige admitted she came to tears while in the recording studio, according to Variety.

The story of 'Precious' is all too familiar to Blige, who has said that young women like the character played by Gabourey Sibide are what encourages her to keep telling her story.
