First Lady Joins Sesame Street for 40th Anniversary

First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on iconic educational children's show Sesame Street for its 40th Anniversary this morning, teaming up with Elmo to teach kids to grow their own veggies.

Mrs. Obama was only five years old when Jim Hensen's lovable Muppets like Big Bird and Cookie Monster waddled their way onto TV screens. While Sesame Street has remained a child favorite, the show has made some big changes over the years. Elmo came on the scene in 1980's and the Cookie Monster is now the veggie eating monster who only sometimes eats one cookie for desert. It makes sense as terms like "local, seasonal, organic" become more commonplace in our vocab. Plus the farm-fresh produce movement is of great importance to the First Lady, who's planted the White House's first vegetable garden since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden of World War II.
