Kerry Washington, Alfre Woodard and Forest Whitaker are just a few of the high-wattage names that President Barack Obama has appointed to the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, Politico.com reports.

The committee, which has served the administration since 1982, works to keep creativity alive by supporting programs in the arts and humanities fields. On November 4,  First Lady and honorary chair, Michelle Obama, will host an event/awards ceremony at the White House to celebrate and recognize the efforts of arts education programs from across the globe that support the mission.--Marcia Caster
