Professional distance runner Deriba Merga won first place at the 113th Annual Boston Marathon on April 20, according to The Boston Herald. The Ethiopian runner finished the race in 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 42 seconds, second behind the marathon record, winning a cash prize of 150,000 dollars. For the women, Salina Kosgei of Kenya finished with a time of 2 hours, 32 minutes, and 16 seconds. She’s the first Kenyan woman to win since Rita Jeptoo in 2006.—LB
