African-American lawmakers are demanding answers. Representative Maxine Waters is cochair of the Congressional Black Caucus Economic Security Taskforce, which asked Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke for a closed-door meeting on March 29 to find out exactly how minorities and women will share in the billions of dollars allocated in federal bailout funds, according to Reuters.com. After the meeting, Waters disclosed that while Bernanke was receptive to the meeting, the group left with no concrete answers. This is just the first in a series of meetings intended to ensure the Obama administration keeps the underdogs in mind as funds are being dispersed to aid those affected by the economy’s downturn.—WLW
