Health News: More Blacks Have Bad Hearts

Comments

One of the first long-term studies of African-Americans and heart disease published in the New England Journal of Medicine concluded that one in 100 Blacks developed heart failure before they turned 50. Researchers hope the new numbers will encourage doctors to be more aggressive in how they treat younger Blacks who may be at risk, according to the Associated Press. Heart failure is often fatal and marked by shortness of breath, fatigue and retention of fluids in the legs and lungs.—WLW
