The Vagina Monologues NYC, a predominately African-American benefit production of Eve Ensler’s Obie-award winning play, will debut tonight at New World Stages in Manhattan. The anticipated theatre event is co-produced by ESSENCE Do Right Man 2007 Jamarran E’mil Moss and his sister, Dr. Shondrika Moss-Bouldin, who is also the director. Proceeds for the two-day performance will benefit several woman-friendly organizations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Women of Color Network, Women Are Dreamers Too, Inc., and the Women’s Organization of Rebirth Through Healing, which assists rape victims in obtaining reconstructive surgery. “We hope that being involved in the V-Day movement to eliminate violence against women and girls will inspire people to stop abusing the world’s most precious resource: women,” says Moss, who actively encourages other men to join him in protest against domestic violence. “Any form of abuse is unacceptable with no justifications, period.” – Demetria Lucas
