Oscar Grant’s family has decided exactly what they want from the Bay Area Rapid Transit agency and the former officer who shot their son. Attorney John Burris acknowledged that the family is seeking a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit, according to the Associated Press. Grant was shot by then officer Johannes Mehserle on New Year’s Day after being detained and arrested on a train station platform in Oakland. The shooting was documented by several riders using their cell phones. Mehserle is free on $3 million bail. His hearing begins on March 23. —WLW
