The city of Los Angeles is known for its liberal views. Now the city’s County Board of Supervisors is lending its support to change a local mountain to be renamed from Negrohead to Ballard Mountain, after the Black man known for settling the area, according to NBC.com. An official proposal to change the name for John Ballard will be sent to the U.S. Board of Geographic names. Ballard helped found the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1869, and received more than 160 acres of land along with his daughter, before he died in 1900.—CJ
