The Senate confirmed New York Senator and former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state Wednesday as President Barack Obama continues to have his Cabinet approved by Congress, according to the Associated Press. The Senate voted 94-2 as two Republican senators opted to vote against her receiving the position, which will deal directly with foreign policy issues like the current state of violence in the Middle East and countries in Africa. In a surprise turn of bipartisan alliance, Senator John McCain voted in favor of Clinton saying, Voters “want us to work together and get to work.”
Clinton’s nomination process was delayed by concern over former President Bill Clinton’s foundation receiving foreign contributions, which could be seen as a conflict of interest.
