Desmond Tutu: President's Inauguration Has Spirit of Mandela

Comments

Archbishop Desmond Tutu was excited to attend the inauguration of President Obama, and described the great strides America has made in race relations as a parallel to South Africa, according to Bloomberg .com. The Nobel Peace Prize winner who fought to tear down apartheid described Obama's inauguration in the White House as a "Mandela Moment." He was alluding to activist Nelson Mandela, who led South Africa for five years as the first president elected under democracy, after serving 27 years in prison for his work to fight apartheid. —CJ
