Democratic Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau became the first African-American woman to serve in the Kansas Senate, according to Kansascity.com. She took her oath of office yesterday in the presence of family and friends, including her 14-year-old daughter, who followed the ceremony with hugs and congratulations.—WLW
