Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter attempted to call a truce with the City of Brotherly Love. Citizens of the city were in an uproar when Nutter announced that he would close local libraries and cut after-school programs in Philadelphia’s roughest neighborhoods in efforts to improve the city’s deficit, according to the Philadelphia Tribune. At a press conference, Nutter said he would save only some libraries and replace the after school programs with “knowledge centers” at no additional cost.
