Michelle Obama Hair Rules

Comments

It could be that Michelle Obama is the new wind beneath our wings. The soon-to-be First Lady is a style maven, political icon, mother of two is causing waves, beyond the ruffled political feathers, and it's no surprise that we all want her wind-blown hair. Hairstylists everywhere are now getting requests for the "Michelle Obama blow-out." We enlisted the help of celeb stylist Eugene Smith of the Ted Gibson Hair Salon to recreate the infamous blow-out, step-by-step.

Step 1:  Shampoo and deep condition your hair. Following the rinse (note: to ensure smooth curls, do not towel blot hair), begin rolling your hair in sections, starting at the forehead and working your way to the nape of the neck. Use bobby pins to secure rollers.

Step 2:  Sit under a hair dryer for 45 minutes to an hour, depending on hair length and thickness.

Step 3: After hair has dried, spritz with a protective conditioning spray like Nexxus Heat Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray, $12.99, at drugstore.com to avoid heat damage.

Step 4:  For body and shine, section the hair in layers. Using a round ceramic thermal brush, $7.99, at sallybeauty.com, begin brushing a small section of the hair in the direction of the hair gowth, from root to tip. Direct heat from the blow dryer in a downward motion along the hair shaft to correspond to brush strokes.

Step 5:  After the blow dry, finish hair with a dime-size amount of hair gloss like BioSilk Silk Therapy, $12.99, at walgreens.com, to add sheen and prevent hair breakage.
