Study Says Black Women Dying at a Younger Age Than White Women

Comments

Black women are dying at a younger age than White women from a number of conditions, such as HIV/AIDS, heart disease and diabetes, reports Medicalnewstoday.com. The Center for Health Statistics report is based on government figures from 2006 and calculates the years of potential life lost. In fact, the report says women living in Jacksonville, Florida, a primarily Black community, have the highest rates of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. The report also said that approximately one in five Black women are uninsured, compared with one in ten White women. Rebecca Filipowicz, coordinator of the Center for Health Statistics, said that even though such diseases are preventable, many women cannot afford health care or they might not know enough about their health to recognize a problem.
