Texas A&M University is facing charges from two of its former researchers. Mundhir Ridha and Saeeda Ali Muhsen are suing the university for being mistreated as a result of their religion and place of origin. The two researchers, who are married, practice Islam and are from Iraq. The couple, who are also suing five colleagues for the misconduct, reported that the coworkers had thrown animal feces and urine on their prayer rugs.
The couple’s lawyer, Shane McClelland, stated that the university found the same discriminatory results when the matter was investigated, but had not settled it. Ridha was fired after complaining about the ordeal in 2007. Ridha and Muhsen emigrated from Baghdad four years ago to bypass persecution for their work in in vitro fertilization.
