Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson received a special birthday gem this weekend. The Chi-town native and "American Idol" alum celebrated her 27th birthday with boyfriend David "Punk" Otunga, who proposed to his dream girl on Friday in Los Angeles, according to People.com.
Although the couple has been dating for less than a year, Hudson's rep revealed their plans to jump the broom. "I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend, David, on Friday night in L.A," said the rep.
Otunga, a Harvard law school graduate better known as "Punk" from VH1's "I Love New York 2," presented Hudson with a Neil Lane diamond ring. Hudson ended her relationship with a longtime beau of nearly a decade earlier this year.
The “Sex and the City" and "Dreamgirls" beauty is gearing up for the release of her self-titled debut album on September 30. In October, Hudson will costar in "The Secret Life of Bees" with label mate Alicia Keys and actresses Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo and Dakota Fanning. The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball”) and coproduced by Will Smith.
