Makeup Bag Makeover: What to Toss and What to Keep

Toss: Old makeup. Generally, cosmetic shelf life is as follows: eye shadows, 6 to 12 months; powders and foundations, 6 to 8 months; lipsticks, 1 year.
Any makeup with glitter or large sparkles, such as eye shadows or cheek gels. Today’s face has soft shimmer and subtle highlights. 
Dark lip liners. They’re far too heavy and out of step with fall’s softer, unlined lip.

Keep: Golden glosses and lipsticks—they’re great for easing into fall. Use just a touch and balance with a nude lip shade so they’re more sensuous than flashy.
